Arnold Classic Europe 2016 Results: Winner & Highlights
Dexter Jackson won the Arnold Classic Europe for the second year in a row. The Blade won 2016's event in Barcelona ahead of "Big Ramy" Mamdouh Elssbiay to establish an historic run of success and longevity. Jackson won the pro show event at Fira Gran Via on Saturday and will collect the $100,000 purse. The defending champion took to his Instagram page to celebrate the win:
Jackson is a familiar winner, but it was still surprising he managed to fend off some strong competition. In particular, beating Big Ramy had seemed beyond the 46-year-old.
After all, Elssbiay boasted the greater mass, via the Body-Extreme YouTube channel:
Granted, the field lost some of its strength when current Mr. Olympia Phil Heath opted not to participate. His omission left the field clear for Jackson.
However, the reigning champion still had to prove himself on the stage:
Earlier, Oksana Grishina won the women's pro event when she finished ahead of Whitney Jones. Yet, despite a second-place finish, Arizona native Jones was delighted with her effort.
Like Jackson, she took to Instagram to celebrate and pose with her winnings:
Unlike the men's event, there was little dispute regarding the winner. Despite the later contention, though, Jackson deserves to be applauded for his run of success.
Winning this event two years in a row is commendable. But still being in shape to beat much younger and bigger men speaks volumes about his discipline and commitment.
